Every unit should have a minimum of one member of the leadership team who is a first aider, and a first aider is required to be present at any Girlguiding activity.

Please visit county and island webpages to find local training.

External Qualifications

If you have completed an external qualification, provided that the course takes at least six hours to complete, you may be able to use this for your Girlguiding 1st response.  All recognised prior learning or external courses will need to be verified through the external first aid area of the learning platform.  This will be verified by your region first aid verifier team. You'll be asked to complete your 1st response e-learning (if you haven't already done so) before you're able to upload your external course for verification. You'll be asked to upload your certificate as well as a completed information form.

Please be aware that the standard syllabus for an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification does not cover the requirements for 1st Response.

If this is your qualification you will still need to undertake modules 2 and 3 unless you have evidence from a course provider that you have covered all required elements through additional training.  If you have evidence from the course provider that paediatric CPR was covered on your course, you can accredit module 1 of 1st Response.  Any evidence should also be uploaded with your certificate and completed form.

Medical professionals

If you're a doctor, nurse or other health care professional you can upload your documentation on the external first aid area of the learning platform as a 1-year course.   You will need to upload evidence of a current, in date training such as BLS, ILS or ALS as well as a completed information form.

If approved through verification, this will last for the duration of the certificate you've provided and once you complete your annual training again, you will need to upload your new training.

If you are about to attend an external first aid course, feel free to download a copy of the 1st response syllabus to make sure that you cover all the elements and can provide evidence that all the elements have been covered.
