My journey into Girlguiding began at 6 when I joined my local Brownies where I found a community vital to most of my primary school years. I enjoyed the experience immensely, gaining not just badges but friends and skills as well. Once I moved to Guides, I ended up quitting due to many factors but also due to COVID-19s impact, but I eventually found my way back through DofE.
I completed both bronze and silver volunteering sections of DofE through helping at Brownies. The enjoyment I found in this experience encouraged me to remain a helper once I had finished DofE, eventually becoming a proper Young Leader. It wasn’t long after, that I got the opportunity to take part in Peer Education which taught me how to deliver ‘breaking free’ sessions (from Brownies to Rangers) focused on helping understand what stereotypes are, their impact and how to break free from them with particular focus on stereotypes women face.
It was through these experiences that enabled me to apply for the council member position. Girlguiding has defined much of my life growing up and contributing to its future is an immense privilege to me. I am particularly passionate about uplifting women and girls’ voices and helping to continue to support a confident generation of girls.
