We are delighted to have had three special updates from Team Austria: 16 Rangers (& their 4 amazing leaders) hopped on a plane and began their Austrian Adventure! They started off in Salzburg for a few days of site seeing before venturing over to Scout Camp Austria to join 4,500 Scouts and Guides from across the world at Together 2023.
They have shared what they have been up to along the way. Read about their adventures here...
“We’ve had a busy first few days exploring Salzburg appreciating all its beautiful sites and immersing ourselves in the Austrian culture.
We’ve filled our days with everything from a Sound of Music tour to exploring Mirabelle Palace Gardens and the Salzburg fortress (with a ride up the Funicular Railway). We’ve also experienced stunning views of the Untersberg Mountain by Cable Car, enjoyed ourselves at Disco Bowling for Isabel’s 16th Birthday and had an absolute ball at our Private Lido (clearly only Brits go swimming in the rain!)
As you can see the girls have fully embraced the experience so far enjoying all the local delicacies, sites and have even navigated themselves around the town to allow independence.
This is just the start and we are all now looking forward to camp, learning new skills, making more memories and new friends from across the world!"
“Team Austria have had the BEST time at Together 2023 immersing themselves in every aspect of camp life. We started the week putting up canvas tents, building shelters and cooking areas from scratch with our partner unit Linz 5 in the rain.
Fortunately after the first two days of camp, the weather turned and we’ve had wall to wall sunshine. This has picked up everyone’s spirits and has enabled the participants to take part in every challenge, opportunity and activity that’s on offer. From the Pieces challenge to swapping badges and neckers at the International tent, taking mud baths, chopping wood, paddling in the Ager, welding Together 2023 signs, eating lots of ice creams, swimming in Lake Attersee, going to offsite workshops and enjoying live concerts they have had an absolute ball!
In the process they’ve made life long friends for life both from the UK and across the world as well as making memories that will last a lifetime!
It’s now time for us to go onto Vienna for our final adventure - we’re all very much looking forward to a hot shower, tasty meal and an actual mattress.”
“24 hours in Vienna!
For our last night in Austria, we travelled back to Vienna for a fancy meal out and a little site seeing. It took several hours to travel from Scout Camp Austria to Vienna by train via Salzburg, but we made it!
Once we arrived in Vienna we made our way to the hostel on the tube (it was rather hot!). A quick change and we were out on our way to the world famous Snitzel house, Figlmüller. We enjoyed a delicious final meal all together and had a little presentation for the girls with certificates, badges and medals. We finished the evening off with a walk back to the hostel via a rather fancy ice cream parlour!
In the morning, we enjoyed an all you can eat hostel breakfast before heading into Vienna for a touch of site seeing on the open top bus. We got to see the famous concert hall, Schonbrunn Palace and St Peter’s Cathedral. After lunch, it was then time to head to the airport ready to make our way back to the UK.
We have had the BEST time on our Austrian Adventure. We’ve all made friends for life both within the group and internationally, created incredible memories and experienced so many new things that will help shape them in the years to come.
As the girls have said…we started as strangers, but finished as family ❤️”
