This role will provide support and guidance to counties and islands across the region to make sure that we offer young members aged 13 -17 the chance to grow their leadership skills by becoming Young Leaders and young external volunteers and being fantastic role models to the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides they volunteer with.

More specifically, you will:

  • Actively promote the exciting new Young Leader programme as widely as possible and ensure it is accessible to any member who wishes to participate.
  • Support C/I Commissioners and Young Leader coordinators to develop a plan to support Young Leaders to complete the programme and put the plan into practice.
  • Organise training courses for C/I Young Leader coordinators and support C/I’s to provide training, so Young Leaders can grow their skills and unit leaders can learn how to support young leaders working in their units.
  • Work with C/Is to encourage our members of Young Leader age to become Young Leaders and complete their qualification.
  • Link with MGR to improve the conversion of young leaders to adult volunteers.
  • To work with C/I s to support young external volunteers and their leaders.
  • Keep up to date with new resources, programme initiatives and training opportunities relating to Young Leaders and communicate and cascade information as appropriate.
  • Be an active member of the Girl Experience Committee and attend meetings which are held 3 times a year (February, May, and September). Provide feedback from members to the committee and written reports as requested.
  • Liaise with the Region inclusion team to ensure that the Young Leader programme is accessible to all who wish to participate.
  • Meet regularly with C/I Young Leader coordinators, at least twice a year, to share information and good practice.

This role would be suitable for adult volunteers who have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience working with young leaders at a District/Division/County level.
  • Skills in coordinating training, mentoring, or coaching either within or outside of guiding.
  • Undertaken roles (current or previous) which involve working with the 13-17 age group or encouraging members to complete training and qualifications e.g., ranger leader, peer educator coordinator, mentor for the Leadership Qualification.
